Headteacher's Welcome

I have had the pleasure of visiting all classrooms this week and spending time talking to the children about their learning. They are all settling in so well to school life and it is lovely to see the confidence growing all the time as they are making new friendships and settling into their new routines. 

The Caterpillar children are doing brilliantly in Preschool developing independence all the time. They have been busy painting - take a look at their fabulous Artwork!

Our Preschool is a happy, calm and exciting place to be. We take children from age 3. If you would like more information or to arrange a visit then please contact the school office.

Our first PTA meeting of the 2026/27 school year was held on Tuesday evening. A big thank you to everyone who came along – both “old” and “new” – for your much-appreciated ideas and contributions! We’re really excited to bring back some old favourite events this year, as well as adding a few new ones.

 Planning Ahead
We’ve taken on board feedback that it would be helpful to have a list of PTA events for the whole year, so we’ve now scheduled these. We’ve also heard that it would be useful to have all school events – whether NGIS or NGIS PTA – in one place. The PTA events will be added to the School Calendar shortly, so everything should be much easier to find in one place. In the meantime, here are a few upcoming dates for your diary:

• Superhero Dogs Day – Friday 16th October
  We’ll be kicking off the PTA events with a Superhero Dogs dress-up day raising money for both Support Dogs and for the school. More information will follow shortly in a letter from the School Office Team.
• Tea Towels
  Children will produce a self-portrait in class which will be printed onto tea towels that you can order. These make lovely personalised Christmas gifts! More information including order details and deadline to follow.
• Autumn Cake Sale – Wednesday 21st October
  We’d really appreciate donations of homemade or shop-bought NUT-FREE cakes! If your child would like to choose and buy a cake in school after lunch, please pop 50p in their book bag. Any remaining cakes will be sold outside after school.
• Christmas Cards
  Children will have the opportunity to make their own Christmas picture at home. This can then be printed onto Christmas cards, keyrings, mugs and other items for you to order online. Another lovely personalised Christmas gift idea! The templates and order form will be coming home in book bags shortly, so please look out for them!
• Christmas Fair – Friday 27th November
  Plans are already underway! We’ll need quite a few volunteers to help with the Elfridges store, cake sales, book sales and, hopefully, some festive refreshments too. If you can volunteer, please let us know as early as possible via the PTA WhatsApp group or nethergreeninfantschoolpta@gmail.com.

Preloved School Uniform Update
A huge thank you to Kezia, who has taken on the not-insignificant task of stocktaking all the gratefully received preloved uniform donations – whilst also looking after her newborn third child! The stocklist is available here. If there are items you’d like to order, please email nethergreeninfantschoolpta@gmail.com. Items will be packed up and left with the School Office for collection and payment.

Notes from the Teachers 

Library Volunteers Needed!

We have a lovely Library in school and our aim is for children to be able to access this regularly and borrow books to take home and enjoy with their families. 

In order for this to happen we need volunteers - it is usually for about an hour a week in an afternoon. We have had some volunteers so far but still need someone for Bears, Koalas and Penguins. Please contact your child's class teacher if you are able to help - grandparents welcome too! 

Please could we remind parents to return library books every week. 

Foundation Stage (Reception)  Information

In addition to the half term Parent Overview, there is also a Weekly Newsletter for parents of children in Reception which gives details of specific learning each week in school and how this can be supported at home.

Contact with Teachers 

If you need to contact your child's class teacher you may email them using the class email which is the name of the class as follows e.g. bears@nethergreen-inf.sheffield.sch.uk, koalas@nethergreen-inf.sheffield.sch.uk etc

Please do not expect an immediate response as teachers are teaching all day and are not expected to reply to emails during evenings and weekends. For a quick chat you can wait at the end of the day. For urgent messages please contact the school office. 

Dates for the Diary

Please see the attached parent calendar which contains lots of important dates that you might want to put in you diaries including Nativity (Y1), Spring Concert (Reception) and Y2 Leaver's Performance. 

Please also note that on Friday 18th December we have Christmas singing outside for parents at 1:45pm. After school club finishes at 4:00pm on this day.

Allergies in School

We have a number of children in school who have severe allergies. Please do not send any products to school containing nuts. This includes cereal bars, biscuits, peanut butter sandwiches etc

We have noticed some children bringing snacks to school this week containing nuts e.g. Nutella sandwiches, almond croissants. All children are given a piece of fruit for snack in the morning - they may bring an alternative fruit / veg snack but we request that you do not send any other food for snack time. 

Eggs - we also have some children with egg allergies - we know that cooked egg is in many products and can be difficult to avoid, however, we do ask that you avoid sending foods with a high egg content e.g. egg sandwiches, scotch eggs etc

Encouraging your child to wash their hands regularly, including before school can also reduce the risk of a reaction.

Broomhill Library Friday Fun Autumn 1 2026

Free Music Taster Day

On Saturday 10 October, 10:00am to 4:00pm, Sheffield Music Hub will be hosting Learn to Play 2026, a FREE music taster day at Red Tape Central, Sheffield. 

The day includes:

• Free 20-minute one-to-one instrumental taster lessons with expert music teachers
• Free "Give it a Go" instrument stalls featuring brass, woodwind, strings, guitar, keyboard and percussion instruments
• Free group music taster sessions, including:
• Mini Music Makers (ages 4 - 7)
• Mini Voices Choir (Years 1 - 2)
• Samba Music (Years 3 - 13)
• Beginner Recorder Club (Years 2 - 4)
