Headteacher's Welcome

It has been a super week in school with the Reception children impressing their audiences with their amazing Spring Concert. The children sang so confidently and had some fabulous moves - it really was a total joy to watch!

The children loved the Easter Egg Hunt yesterday in the Woodland  - thanks to all of the PTA volunteers who organised it - it was fantastic!!!

Mrs Turton has been busy over the past two weeks with children from all classes to paint our lion cub. Our lion is now ready to join the Pride of Yorkshire trail this summer. Children contributed their ideas to the question 'What are you proud of in our school?' They had some super ideas and worked together to create our fabulous lion cub.

Well done everyone!!!! And special thanks to Mrs Turton for coordinating this fantastic project!

We will keep you updated about where our lion cub will be on the trail and

when you can go and see it for yourselves!

Meet Buddy our Lion cub. The children created designs based on the question 'What are you Proud of in our school and in Sheffield?'

Buddy celebrated with our Stars of the Week today - we are so proud of you all!

I hope you all have a lovely break over the Easter holidays. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us and you will be able to enjoy some fun family times.

Online Safety Assembly

This week we had our Online Safety assembly. We shared the story

'The internet is like a Puddle'.

These are the key messages from the story:-

  1. The Internet is a Great Place to Play: Just like a real puddle, the internet can be a lot of fun. It’s a place for splashing, exploring, and learning. It connects us to people and information far away, making the world feel like a small, exciting place to discover.
  2. Puddles Can Be Deeper Than They Look: The book teaches children that while the surface looks shallow and safe, the internet has "deep" parts: The Message: Some things online aren't meant for kids, or might be too "deep" (scary or confusing) for them to handle alone.

The Lesson: Always check with a "big person" before jumping into a new part of the internet.

  1. Once You’re In, You Get Wet:- This is a clever way to explain digital footprints. In a real puddle, if you jump in, your clothes get wet and stay wet for a while.

The Message: Whatever you do or say online stays there. Even if you try to "dry off," a record of what you did often remains. It encourages children to be kind and thoughtful before they "splash."

  1. Don't Go Puddle-Jumping Alone

Safety is a team effort. The story emphasizes that children should always have a trusted adult nearby when they are using devices.

  • The Message: If you see something that makes you feel "yucky," worried, or uncomfortable, you should tell a grown-up immediately. They are like your boots and raincoat—there to protect you.

Extra Curricular Clubs After Easter

Things to note:-

  • Bookings are open
  • Places are left in Yoga, Boys Football, Girls Football, Taekwondo, Dance & Sing, Choir & Multi Sports
  • Choir is a longer block which goes into Summer Term 2  and will run up until the 18th June as we will be preparing for our Summer Concert on the 23rd June - children will need to attend all of these sessions.

School Meals Survey

Thanks to those of you who have completed our School Meals survey and shared your views.

We will leave this survey open until after the Easter holidays to ensure everyone has time to complete it if they wish.

Our school meals are provided by a company, Taylor Shaw, who have been commissioned by Sheffield City Council.

We are seeking views from parents about the meals that are offered in school.
Please click the link below to tell us what you think - if your child has a packed lunch we would still like to hear the reasons for choosing a packed lunch over a school dinner.
Thanks.

Preschool Application Deadline for Sep 26 - Jul 27 is Wed 1st Apr

We invited parents of children in our Preschool to complete a survey - here are some of their comments:-

  • Staff are excellent
  • Happy and feels in safe hands.
  • The classroom always seems very welcoming, with a good range of activities and toys.
  • I think the classroom looks beautiful and practical
  • There is plenty of equipment for exploring and climbing on. Everything has been so thoughtfully designed to create a playful space.
  • My child loves playing outside and being with his new friends

We will share  the full response after the holidays.

After the Easter holidays, it won’t be long until our School Disco on Thursday 14th May! It’s a fantastic opportunity for the children to spend time with friends, show off their best dance moves, and have lots of fun in a safe and familiar setting. Doors open at 5:30pm, with pick-up at 6:30pm. The cost is £6 per child. More details will be shared soon — we can’t wait to see everyone there!

To celebrate Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday on Friday 8th May, the children will be learning about his incredible work and the natural world he has brought to life for so many. To mark the occasion, children are invited to come to school dressed as something from the natural world — an animal, bird, plant, flower or anything nature-inspired! We kindly ask for a £1 donation in book bags on the day. We can’t wait to see all the wonderful and creative outfits!

We’re excited to share that planning is now underway for our Summer Fair, taking place on Friday 19th June! This year’s event will have a fun farm theme, with games including Feed the PigSplat the Rat and Guess the Name of the Scarecrow, alongside favourites like the bouncy castle and BBQ. As our biggest event of the year, we’ll need plenty of volunteers to help make it a success. If you’re able to lend a hand, please sign up as early as possible — your support will help us create a fun-filled and successful day for everyone! Please drop us a message at nethergreeninfantschoolpta@gmail.com

Finally, our next PTA meeting is on Tuesday 28th April, 19:45 at The Florentine. Everyone welcome!

Public Health Update

In light of the recent cases of invasive meningococcal disease reported in Kent, Sheffield public health services are reminding parents and carers about the importance of ensuring children and young people are up to date with routine vaccinations. In particular, we would like to highlight the importance of the 6-in-1 (DTaP/IPV/Hib/HepB) vaccine and the MenB (meningococcal B) vaccine, which are offered across several doses in the first 18 months of life. These vaccines provide vital protection against serious illnesses, including meningitis and sepsis. While these are usually given in infancy, children who have missed one or more doses can still catch up. It also crucial to ensure children are fully vaccinated against measles, as we know the disease continues to circulate in Yorkshire.

If any doses have been missed, they can be caught up by contacting your child’s GP practice or by attending a local School Age Immunisation Service (SAIS) drop-in clinic. Further information on clinic locations and times is available here:
