Headteacher's Welcome

We have really been enjoying the lovely weather this week and the children have been making the most of all our fabulous outdoor spaces! It was lovely to welcome so many parents and carers into school this morning for our friendly Friday Book Look - there were lots of very proud parents in school!

The Year 1 & 2 children had a fabulous visit to Conisbrough Castle on Monday and Tuesday. They enjoyed exploring the castle grounds, climbing up into the Keep and finding out more about what life in the castle was really like long, long ago!

Just a reminder of the upcoming PTA events:

To celebrate Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday on Friday 8th May, the children will be learning about his incredible work and the natural world he has brought to life for so many. To mark the occasion, children are invited to come to school dressed as something from the natural world — an animal, bird, plant, flower or anything nature-inspired!

It’s not long until our School Disco which is on Thursday 14th May! It’s a fantastic opportunity for the children to spend time with friends, show off their best dance moves, and have lots of fun in a safe and familiar setting. Doors open at 5:30pm, with pick-up at 6:30pm. The cost is £6 per child.

We now need to get cracking with planning the 2026 Summer Fair which will take place on Friday 19th June! This year’s event will have a fun farm theme, with games including Feed the PigSplat the Rat and Guess the Name of the Scarecrow, alongside favourites like the bouncy castle and BBQ. As our biggest event of the year, we’ll need plenty of volunteers to help make it a success. If you’re able to lend a hand, please sign up as early as possible — your support will help us create a fun-filled and successful day for everyone! Please drop us a message at nethergreeninfantschoolpta@gmail.com

If you’re not on the PTA WhatsApp group and could help with any of the events, please do get in touch via email - nethergreeninfantschoolpta@gmail.com.

Please join us!

Sleep Survey

Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust and BrainTrain Ltd (manufacturers of Sleep Cogni) are collaborating on a survey of children’s sleep in all primary schools in Sheffield. We would be very grateful for your support.

The impact of sleep disturbance on children’s health is wide-ranging with sleep deprivation leading to difficulties with mood, social integration and problems with cognitive ability and learning.

The prevalence of sleep problems in childhood is thought to be rising, but although surveys have been carried out in Australia and Germany that indicate that 30-40% children have sleep problems, no data is available from school children in the UK.

We propose to circulate an on-line survey to all 133 primary schools in Sheffield and we would like to encourage all parents to complete the survey. We will use these responses to describe the current issues with sleep in children of this age group in Sheffield.
