Nether Green Infant School

Attendance

We are highly committed to the improvement of school attendance. There are 190 days in a school year which leaves 175 days to spend on family time, shopping, appointments and other things. More than 18 days absence is less than 90% and is considered a 'persistent absentee'. There is strong evidence to indicate that significant absence from school during term time can have a negative impact on a child's attainment and learning. With the help of parents and carers we encourage all pupils to attend school and to achieve their maximum potential.

Leave of absence

Term time leave should not be considered the 'norm' or an 'entitlement'. Under current regulations schools have the discretion to grant leave for exceptional circumstances only.

Parents and carers are not entitled to remove children from school for holidays. If a parent feels there are exceptional circumstances leave of absence must be applied for by completing the form below and returning it to the office.

The decision to authorise absence for leave rests entirely with the Headteacher.

Children missing from education

We are committed to ensuring that all children attend school everyday. Children who do not attend school are at risk of underachieving, being harmed or getting into ‘trouble’.

If a child is missing from school and we have been unable to make contact with parents or carers and we have any concerns about their whereabouts the headteacher contacts the Children Missing from Education team at the Local Authority. She will follow their guidance for the safeguarding of the child.
