Headteacher's Welcome

It’s been a long but very productive term with children making so much progress with their learning as well as their independence. It has been lovely to welcome parents into school for meetings with teachers this week – it is always so positive to reflect on all the steps of progress the children have made. Thanks to everyone for your continued support both at home with your child’s learning but also with your contributions to the PTA events - the cake sale was definitely enjoyed by all yesterday! THANK YOU!!!

         Online Safety Assembly

Each half term we have an Online Safety Assembly for KS1 and the Reception children cover the same story in their classroom with their teacher. For this half term’s online safety assembly we shared the book Digi Duck’s Big Decision. Below is a summary of the story and some of the key learning points that were talked about with the children.

Story Summary

In the story, Digiduck receives a funny photo of one of his friends. Excited, he thinks about sharing and posting it online for everyone to see. However, he is unsure whether it is the right thing to do. Guided by Wise Owl, Digiduck explores what could happen if he shares the image. He realises that even if something seems funny or harmless to him, posting it could hurt his friend's feelings, cause a misunderstanding, or permanently damage someone's trust. In the end, Digiduck makes the big decision not to share the photo, learning a valuable lesson about being a good friend both offline and online.

Key Online Safety Messages for Parents

Digital Empathy and Kindness: Actions online have real-world emotional consequences. Children are taught to think about how their peers might feel before they post, text, share, or forward pictures and messages.

The Permanence of the Internet: The story helps children understand that once something is sent or posted online, it can quickly spread, become difficult to take back, and potentially live on forever.

Being a Good Digital Friend: Good manners and respect apply to technology just as much as they do in the school playground. Encouraging kids to support and protect their friends online is vital.

Open Communication with Adults: The resource encourages children to talk to a trusted adult if they ever feel confused, upset, or worried about anything they encounter on a screen.

Tips for Parents:-

Explore Together: The best way to understand your child’s digital world is to use technology together, engaging positively with the games and apps they enjoy.

Keep Devices Visible: Placing computers, tablets, or laptops in common family areas (like the living room or kitchen) makes it easier to supervise online activity and guide children naturally.

Establish Healthy Boundaries: Agreeing on screen-time limits and keeping portable devices out of bedrooms at night helps prevent tiredness and keeps online use balanced.

THANK YOU: Cake Sale

A huge thank you to Alex, Rachael and Rose for running Wednesday’s cake sale, and to everyone who baked, bought and enjoyed a cake! We hope a little sweet treat helped keep everyone going until the end of term.

UPDATE: Preloved Uniform

We’ve made the decision to move our preloved uniform sales to SumUp (shop here). Sorry for any confusion while we make the switch! We’ve changed platforms because SumUp charges just around 10p per transaction, compared with £1.50–£2 through GrownOutOfIt. That means much more of the money raised goes directly back to our lovely school. Every penny really does count, so thank you for bearing with us!

REMINDER: Christmas Card Designs

A little reminder that Christmas card designs need to be back at school by Friday 6th November (the first Friday back after half term). Please encourage the children to get creative over the break so their masterpieces are ready to go!

REMINDER: PTA Meeting

Our next PTA meeting is on Tuesday 10th November at 19:45 at The Florentine. We’d love to see you there! Whether you’re a regular or completely new to the PTA, everyone is welcome. There’s absolutely no pressure to come away with a long to-do list — it’s a great chance to meet other parents, share ideas and get a sneak peek at what we’ve got planned!

HELP NEEDED: Christmas Fair

Our big Christmas Fair is happening straight after school in the School Hall on Friday 27th November! It’s our only event in November, so we’re pulling out all the stops to make it a festive one! We’d be incredibly grateful for donations of:

  • Festive cakes and bakes — homemade treats always go down well!
  • Preloved uniform or Christmas clothing — perfect for giving items a second life
  • Unwanted gifts for adults and children — to help us stock our ever-popular Elfridges store

A huge thank you to our volunteers! Alex, Avril, Fran, Hazel and Sophie have already kindly offered to help staff the stalls. We still need at least 6 more volunteers to help everything run smoothly. Little helpers are very welcome too! And finally, a big thank you to Peak Fruits in Lodgemoor and Hathersage, who have very kindly agreed to donate a Christmas tree again this year. If you’re passing, please do pop in and support this wonderful local business that continues to support our school.

Have a lovely half term break!
