Headteacher's Welcome

It has been a super week in school. The Y1 & Y2 children had a fantastic visit to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park on Wednesday. They were full of enthusiasm when they returned and really had enjoyed a fabulous day out. The teachers all commented on how well behaved the children were and that they showed such enthusiasm and interest all day. Apparently the sun came out too which, after the awful rain at the beginning of the week, was a real bonus! Well done everyone!

Cake Sale on Friday 11^th October

Just a reminder that the Cake Sale is next Friday. Any donations of cakes, buns and biscuits (baked or bought) would be gratefully received and can be brought to the office from 8.30am on Friday morning or before school pick up on Thursday 10th if that works better. Please remember we are a nut free school and ingredients of home baked cakes should be displayed on the tin. Each class will be invited to choose their cakes after lunch. If you’d like your child to buy one it would be great if you could pop 50p in their book bag that morning. We also invite parents to buy any remaining cakes after school, outside from 3pm. Please ensure children with allergies have their cake clearly labelled.

Dress As You Please on Thursday 24^th October

Our first Dress As You Please Day of the new school year will be Thursday 24^th October, the last day of term.

Autumn Fair on Friday 29^th November

We are planning an Autumn Fair which will be held on Friday 29^th November, 3.30-4.30pm in the School Hall. There will be a silent auction, cakes and uniform sales as well as some seasonal specials – Elfridges and Christmas clothing sales! More details to follow in the coming weeks but please put the date in your diary and start getting out any outgrown school uniform and Christmas clothes!

Christmas Cards

We realise it’s early to be thinking about Christmas, but if you’re looking for a way to support the school and make a start on your Christmas shopping, this is the perfect opportunity! Your child will shortly be bringing home a template on which they can design a special picture ready for Christmas. This can then be printed on to Christmas cards, mugs and a whole range of other products via Xmas4Schools. More details to come in the next few weeks.

Tea Towels

Children will be given the opportunity to create self-portraits on tea towels – Christmas presents sorted! More to follow in the coming weeks.

School Uniform – Now Online

A reminder that you can now buy second hand school uniform online here - https://www.grownoutofit.co.uk/school/Nether_Green_Infant_School/4123 Simply buy online, and your chosen item will be dropped off at school in reception the next day. Please ensure you put your child’s name and class with the order! All proceeds from the sale go straight to school.

Notes from the Teachers

Reception Maths Talk for Parents - next Tues 8th Oct

Mrs Keeling will be doing a short talk in the hall about how children develop their Maths skills in Reception. This will be followed by the opportunity to go into your child's class and carry out some Maths activities with them. This session will last about 45 minutes. Please wait outside the front of school and the office team will let you in the main entrance once the children have ll been registered in school.

If you need to contact your child's class teacher you may email them using the class email which is the name of the class as follows e.g. bears@nethergreen-inf.sheffield.sch.uk, koalas@nethergreen-inf.sheffield.sch.uk etc

Please do not expect an immediate response as teachers are teaching all day and are not expected to reply to emails during evenings and weekends. For a quick chat you can wait at the end of the day. For urgent messages please contact the school office.

School Dinners - Summer Menu

W/c 7th October is week 2.

NOTE: the menu is changing slightly. On Fridays of Weeks 1 and 3 the Cheese Flan will be replaced by a Cheese & Onion Puff Pastry Roll. We will no longer be offering Egg Mayo sandwiches on Mondays - the sandwich option will be cheese.

Lost Property - If things go astray we would like to be able to return them to their owner - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LABEL EVERYTHING!!!

A group of parents are interested in making the area around school safer for our children by setting up a 'School Streets' scheme.

Please complete the following survey to let us know whether you support the scheme and if you are able to volunteer to help out with this on a regular basis.

Dates for the Diary

Please see attached the Parent Calendar for this year. Please take a few minutes to take note of dates including INSET and holiday dates, Parents' Evenings, Parent workshops to find out about learning in school and performances.

Notes about the calendar: 'Friendly Friday' - every 4th Friday that the children are in school parents will be invited into classrooms from when they open at 8:40am until when the bell rings at 8:55am. Initially this will just be Y1 and Y2 classes whilst the new Reception children settle.

Family Communication Seminar

On Fri 18th Oct Nether Green Junior School is hosting a Family Communication Seminar which will be delivered by Sheffield Parent Carer Hub.

Parents of children attending Broomhill Infant
School, Nether Green Infant School and Nether Green Junior School are warmly welcome to attend. The seminar will take place from 9:00am – 10:30am and refreshments will be provided.
The Family Communication Seminar is a practical seminar for parents and carers of school aged children.

Content covers why communication quality matters to your child’s education and how to create the best relationship environment for your children. This seminar covers the following helpful topics:

Setting a good example for your child.
Home and school environments – how to help your child.
What we do and say – the difference it can make.
Learn simple effective skills of being assertive to improve communication in your relationships
